Diamond cluster found at Kalyanadurgam

A precious diamond cluster has been found by National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC) in Anantapur area.As per reports Kimberlite pipe which was possibly a diamond bearing, has been found in Kalyandurgam of Anantapur district in Andhra Pradesh. As it was  seventh Kimberlite pipe to be discovered in the Kalyandurg cluster it was named as KL-7.

Kimberlite is an igneous rock best known for sometimes containing diamonds. Kimberlite pipes are the most important source of mined diamonds today.Almost all  diamonds are mined from volcanic carrot shaped formations and it was called as Kimberlite pipe

The exploration was carried out by Abhijit Mukherjee, C.B. Verma and Suyash Jha of NMDC along with Dr E.V.S.S.K. Babu of NGRI. Companies have to obtain mining leases from the government for taking up actual mining of the diamonds.
