Do not Arrest accused in Dowry cases: High Court order!

AP High Court on Wednesday directed the police not to arrest the accused in Dowry harassment cases without the prior permission of district superintendent of police (SP) or an officer of equal rank in Metropolitan cities.

In the wake of misuse of Section 498A, High Court asked the magistrates no to remand any accused to judicial custody in a routine manner.

 The High Court opined Dowry Harassment section 498A has been misused by women by following the wrong advise or due to the impression that their husbands would come to terms. It also said Section 498A is used to break the families rather than uniting them.

HC made these comments when the anticipatory bail petition filed by Syed Kaleemuallah Hussaini came up for hearing in a Doe.wry Harassmentcas
