Usually, Audience judge a film as Celluloid Wonder based on promotional materials or after the release of a movie. In the case of 'Baahubali', The moment such a project was announced film buffs began believing it's going to be a spectacular film ever made on Indian Screen. Rajamouli holds the track record of reaching the expectations every now and then. Has the Master Craftsman done in again?
Synopsis:
Shivudu (Prabhas) who grew up watching a sky-high waterfall always had the desire to know what's on the other side of the World (atop the waterfall). Somehow, He manages to climb the biggest rocks with the inspiration of his dream girl (Avantika) and takes up the challenge to free Devasena, a slave in Mahishmati kingdom, for the sake of his soulmate. Its then Shivudu will come to know about his identity as Mahendra Baahubali and his father Amarendra Baahubali.
Performances:
Ramya Krishna as Sivagami is one actor who steals the show with her brilliance playing the most powerful role in 'Baahubali'. She leaves a mark of her own in each and every scene she appears as Epitome-of-Justice.
Prabhas is equally good as Shivudu and Baahubali, variations he exhibited for both these roles is commendable and built a physique everyone will be in awe watching. He, however, failed to win the hearts with the voice modulation & body language.
Rana Daggubati makes his presence felt in 'Baahubali' with his career-best acting, playing the 'cunning' Bhallaladeva. Tamanna shines in a glamorous role but fails as a warrior, especially in fight sequences. Anushka's de-glamorised role willn't be appreciated much and even her make-up isn't good enough. As Kattappa, Satya Raj makes a good impression right from the first sequence. Nassar as Bijjaladeva is flawless in every scene. Adivi Sesh was wasted.
Pros:
Visual Grandeur
Background Score
Battle-Field Sequence
Cons:
Screenplay
Emotional Connect missing
Abrupt Ending
Technicalities:
Technicians are the backbone of 'Baahubali' as we could find how much efforts they have put in each and every frame. MM Keeravani's musical score is one of the highlights and even the songs were picturized well. Its his Background Score which has give life to 'Baahubali' and the re-recording in emotional/war scenes is exceptional.
Watching the waterfall sequence, world of Mahishmathi and battle-field scenes through the lenses of Cinematographer Senthil Kumar is a lifetime experience. Sabu Cyril's Art Direction is splendid. The huge sets build in the film were wonderful and art work in scene is clap worthy. The weapons and other materials designed for the war-field sequence deserves a special mention. After 'Robo', Its 'Baahubali' in terms of Visual Effects matching Hollywood standards and credit goes to Srinivas Mohan & Team.
Costumes by Rama Rajamouli and Prasanthi were perfect. Dialogues penned by Vijay and Ajay are fine. Kota Venkateswara Rao's Editing could have been better in few scenes.
Analysis:
To start with, 'Baahubali' is visual feast from start to finish and there is no doubt about it. Whether its the eye-catching waterfall or the high-octane war scenes, You will be blown away by the visual grandeur and worth you ticket price no matter how much you had spend.
None of Rajamouli's films have a great story to narrate but he mainly concentrates on screenplay & emotions. In the case of 'Baahubali', He focussed more on other aspects and hence screenplay and emotions took a backseat.
All said, there is no dearth for highlights in 'Baahubali' and every scene will be as grand as a climax. Rajamouli deserves a pat on his back for extracting the best output from his actors and technicians. It must be said the filmmaker didn't give too much importance to logic this time and we don't expect such a thing from a man with Rajamouli's caliber. The war of Mahishmathi with Kalekaya Tribe is the major highlight of 'Baahubali' and a must watch. The abrupt ending gives a strange feeling to the film lovers while leaving the theaters. Lastly, 'Baahubali' is film every Indian has to watch at least Once for its sheer brilliance on the technical side.
Bottomline: A Visual Spectacle!
