Delhi police remove barricades outside US embassy
By: Tupaki Desk | 17 Dec 2013 1:21 PM GMTDelhi Police Tuesday removed barricades and allowed normal traffic movement outside and around the US embassy in the capital.
The step was taken on a day India sought unconditional apology from the US over the arrest and the purported strip search of the ranking Indian diplomat Devyani Khobragade in New York.
The barricades outside the US embassy, located in Chanakyapuri diplomatic enclave, were placed two years ago, after an alert of terror attacks on the embassy.
The normal vehicular traffic was particularly barred from the slip roads in front of the embassy and the visa office at the back of the chancery.
Two cranes were used to remove the cemented road blocks.
Senior officers of Delhi Police were present during the operation which went for around half an hour.
Police did not specify any reason for the step they were taking.
