Mahesh Babu - What is this Rs 50 crore comedy?
By: Tupaki Desk | 27 Jun 2014 4:21 PM GMTThe buzz in the media circles is that Mahesh Babu's films have been doing phenomenal pre-release business and Rs 50 crore isn't a big deal for this charming hero. They even quote the territory-wise business including Nizam - Rs 14 crore, Ceeded - Rs 7 crore, Uttar Andhra - Rs 4 crore, 6 Other Coastal Districts - Rs 12 crore, Rest of India - Rs 5 crore and Overseas - Rs 8 crore to strengthen their claims.
Critics, however, question - 'What is this Rs 50 crore comedy?'. They say its the post-release business that matters the most, not the pre-release business.
Take for example the case of '1 - Nenokkadine' which was made on a mammoth budget of Rs 70 crore. Sadly, This experimental flick managed to collect just nearly Rs 30 crore in its full run. Its the producer (14 Reels) which had to bare the huge losses as they preferred an own release due to few reasons.
Even Mahesh's biggest hit till dat 'Dookudu' collected a share of Rs 56 crore. In that case, A pre-release business of over Rs 50 crore for his films is dangerous for the exhibitors and distributors. The film has to be a much bigger hit than 'Dookudu' if they were to make profits.
