Cinematogrpaher: I Andrew
Music: Anup Rubens
Story-Dialogues-Screenplay-Direction: Vijay Kumar Konda
Producer: Annapurna Studios
Release date: 17th October, 2014
Proving his mettle with romantic flicks, Naga Chaitanya always tastes success in that genre. This time he joined hands with Vijay who delivered Gudnejari Gallantayyinde earlier. Let us see what is this movie actually promising.
The CONTENT
An ISB graduate and topper Karthik (Naga Chaitanya) decides not to take those plush job offers and convinces his parents (Suman and Sudha) about taking a year holiday. He decides to travel the world and later write a book on his experiences. Then he encounters Nandu (Pooja Hegde). From then it is a comedy of errors and misunderstandings as Karthik expresses his love for the girl. And there comes a twist in the interval, bringing the pair together by family but separated by hearts. So, how they unite? Watch it on silver screen.
The EFFORT :
On-Screen:
Naga Chaitanya improved a lot with his performance this time, though there is not much depth here in Oka Laila Kosam to perform. But his simple dialogue delivery, comedy timing and body language as a romantic hero impresses.
Pooja Hegde, the hyped Miss India finalist, needs to perk up her expressions a lot. Though she looks scintillating on screen and walks like a world-class ramp model, still she failed to bring certain dose of innocent to the character. Otherwise, she is beautiful.
Senior comedian Ali did a good show this time. Like a Brahmi in other movies, this time Ali took the mantle of delivering super fun. His work in first half brought big laughs. Madhu, the guy who became regular among heroes friend characters these days, did well. All others just did their part as come and go.
Off-Screen:
Vijay Kumar Konda has this penchant for ‘comedy’ it seems as he induced a lot into a love story which otherwise could become an intense romantic drama. He extracted decent work from all. But still, he needs to pack a punch with certain scenes as ‘elevation’ could have made them more striking.
Music director Anup Rubens songs are average this time, as they are neither peppy or extremely melodious and soulful. But his background score is laudable, though at parts it is daunted. A lot was expected from cinematographer Andrew (Darling fame), and he lived up to his expectations. All other technicians haven’t done big to boast about but did their part well.
The PLUSES:
· Naga Chaitanya
· Comedy in first half
· Few romantic scenes
The MINUSES:
· Predictable story
· Weak Climax
· Average Songs
BREAKDOWN:
We have seen Chaitu in 100% Love and Vijay’s talent in Gundejari Gallantayyinde. Now the whole move ‘Oka Laila Kosam’ looks like as if those two are mixed and remixed and delivered. But what many are expecting these days is interesting screenplay and arresting scenes. Definitely a known story with different narration is clicking. To large extent, this flick is a proven story with differently tried narration.
Naga Chaitanya appears at ease in this simple-crafted story and breathes life into romantic scenes. As the film kick-starts, his simple look connects with everyone. And with heroine’s entry, the film gets pace as her beautiful screen presence. Taking this romantic journey through a comedy world, director Vijay has given some beautiful moments. As songs are just average and nothing beyond that, song-lovers have no cup to sip. And interval clicks big time, as the expression based comedy entertains everyone.
But once the twist is revealed, graph in second half gets dipped. Also the creative writing team hasn’t churned out new scenes, but forcefully inserted few gap-fillers, creating some lackluster moments for audiences. At least songs should have brought in that energetic moments, but they seamlessly blend in the simple flow of the movie. As the films nears pre-climax, there are couple of comedy scenes as well, but they are too weak as we end up predicting climax 15 minutes in advance.
Basing on that title, we expect loads of intensity in love but this comedy love story just touches many points on surface and leaves you with half-taste. Had Chaitu and his director worked on screenplay, adding more intensity to the narration, this flick would have become blockbuster. If not, Oka Laila Kosam is one cool movie that will entertain for 2 hours 20 minutes sans those goosebumps and hair raising feelings. These are the days of ‘comedy’ and ‘happy’ flicks, so the flick might impress audiences for a while until another happening flick hits theatres.
The FINISHING Line: Oka Chaitu Kosam, Watch It Once
