After the flop show of Iddarammayilatho, stylish hero Allu Arjun is trying to prove a point very firmly this time, and he joined hands with Surender Reddy to get that punch. Here comes ‘Race Gurram’ and let us see how this horse is running.

The CONTENT

The story is all about two brothers Ram IPS (Shyam) and his younger brother Lakshman Prasad alias Lucky (Allu Arjun). Since childhood these two brothers are at logger heads, with Ram being a bright and good student, while Lucky is a crook and street-smart kind. At the same time a dreaded goon Siva Reddy (Ravi Kishan) leaves Rowdyism to become politician. Sincere officers like Ram try to prevent him. Meanwhile, Lucky falls flat for Spandana (Shruti Haasan) and is busy wooing her all the time. Due to an incident, Lucky finds that his brother is being plotted for a murder by Siva Reddy and he attacks the rowdy-politician. From then, what happens to Lucky-Ram’s brotherly relation, how their family gets shattered and rest is the story that follows.

The EFFORT :

On-Screen:

Needless to say, Allu Arjun is at his best again when it comes to delivering mixed emotions with ease. The way he excelled with comedy is simply mind blowing, and the way he warns villains with heavy dialogues but with toned diction is awesome. He is the treat to watch.

After hero, two main characters for the movie are ‘Kick’ Shyam and Ravi Kishan, with Shyam being a sincere police officer and Ravi Kishan a dreaded antagonist. Shyam showcased his potential this time by tickling funny bones too. Ravi Kishan is best in expressions, and his looks are enough to bring that cool villainy.

Shruti Haasan is temptingly glamorous in scenes and songs, though her role is quite limited to first half. With superb dubbing, her character simply blows minds for that cuteness and bubbly look. Saloni has done a miniscule role, just a couple of scenes but nothing much. Prakash Raj is surprising for a small role he accepted, and he is used only to provide comedy.

Brahmandam is stunning as Kill Bill Pandey, and his 20 minute cameo as a serious police officer literally makes you bump out of the seat with unlimited laughter. He is an asset for any film when utilized properly, and its pay to the best in this flick.

Others including JP, Posani, Srinivas Reddy, Tanikella Bharani have done their part.

Off-Screen:

Director Surender Reddy either picks up a stunning storyline or a poor story with superb screenplay. For Race Gurram he picked up a simple story with all known elements and tried to impress with his screenplay again. His direction is at his best when extracting the best of Bunny, Shyam and Ravi Kishan for many scenes. Connecting dots is what Surender Reddy excels mainly and he didn’t miss that too.

Music director Thaman is little disappointing when it comes to songs, but provided thumping background score as usual. Choreographers who tried to present Allu Arjun in a new level failed to an extent as even a minimum of dance steps are missed in a couple of songs, with dance being Bunny’s main strength.

Cinematographer Manoj Paramhamsa isn’t as impressive as he has done something like a Ye Maya Chesave. However, he shot songs brilliantly including two popular numbers Down Down Duppa and Cinema Choopista Maava. In action scenes, there are certain glitches and unwanted monotone color grading, cutting the feel of movie lovers.

The PLUSES:

· Allu Arjun

· Bits and pieces of comedy

· Brahmi’s Kill Bill episode

· Second Half

The MINUSES:

· Lack of exciting story

· Little drags in first half

· Wasted senior actors

BREAKDOWN:

Looks like, Surender Reddy learnt from his Oosaravelli mistakes and incorporated a lot of ‘Kick’ theory into ‘Race Gurram’, including introducing hero to cutting to past-action and switched screenplay.

In fact, Race Gurram starts on interesting note as a story of two brothers at logger heads. Their quarrels create huge fun for audiences and make the movie more entertaining. There comes the Bunny-Shruti episode giving lot of kick for youths as a cute love story starts unfolding. As a story, Race Gurram will not give kick, but the comedy-liners and Bunny’s energy set the screenplay racing. But the graph goes down for a while with story going nowhere and the unexpected interval bang, though heavily masala mixed, stuns for a while. Second half is quick with less comedy and more action, sentiment as the story unfolds. But unexpectedly the movie takes a big comic turn with Brahmi’s entry leading to climax, a little weak climax, but still an enjoyable one.

One look at the movie says it all, Bunny and director Suri have kept all the logics aside apart from the only fact that they should entertain cine lovers. Without searching for logic, they went on piling funny and stunning scenes, and brought new look with Bunny’s mannerism. However, screenplay looks little patchy with movie taking many turns and going away from the master plot. That brings in some dull moments, some expected scenes and some forced scenes too.

Director should have either stick to story of brothers or story of sincere cop, a wrong politician and care-free brother. As he tried to mix both, somewhere the lines don’t meet. With two many characters cooked into it, one gets confusion as to why director is wasting senior actors like Prakash Raj, Mukesh Rushi and Kota for such silly roles. With few boring moments, Race Gurram is entertaining throughout.

The FINISHING Line: "Race Gurram" Is Time Pass Treat
