Desperate to score a hit, youngster Aadhi is regularly making his presence felt at theatres, but a hit is always eluding him. This time he has turned ‘Rough’ under newcomer Subba Reddy’s direction. As the director promised that this film will be a game changer in Tollywood like RGV’s ‘Shiva’ and a fitting farewell to late actor Srihari. Let us see how it is.

The CONTENT

Chandu (Aadhi) is an orphan and a go lucky guy who helps his friends in trouble and teaches love lessons to goons. One day he falls flattered for Nandini (Rakul Preet) who is sister of milllionarie Siddharth (Srihari). Rather approaching Nandini to propose, Chandu meets her brother to propose. As Siddharth tries to distance Chandu from Nandini, she gets close to him. And there comes a flashback that Chandu is a convict in murder case. What happens to this tangle is what you have to watch on silver screen.

The EFFORT :

On-Screen:

Aadhi has six pack body and will dance well. But that is not enough to become a larger-than-life hero on silver screen. Though he looks cool, whenever he delivers over the board dialogues, we feel bored. Also he needs to improvise his acting abilities in delivering various emotions. Never had he impressed with his antics.

Late actor Srihari is the one who gives big shock. After watching him in movies like Dhee, Magadheera and Brindavanam, one wonders why he picked this spineless role in Rough. There is not much acting from him, neither any substance in the role he played.

Rakul Preet Singh delivered her trademark lifeless expressions again. Apart from looking gorgeous in couple of songs, never she created fever with her presence.

Siva Reddy, Ajay, Suhasini, Kasi Viswanath and others have nothing to do except reading the dialogues written for them by the writer. There is nothing like a performance we could talk about.

Off-Screen:

Director Subba Reddy’s tall claims never lived up to the expectation as he has chosen a tried tested and worn out story to make a big commercial debut. Only cinematographer Senthil’s help is visible all over but not any racy screenplay or intelligent conceiving of scenes. Forget about the links between each scene and soulful connecting factors.

Cinematographer Senthil proves for a while that he is the best. Vibrant color schemes, superb blocks and standard rule book shots are his wonders. And some parts of the movie are shot by his friend Arun and they could be identified easily as they lack the punch.

The PLUSES:

· NOTHING

The MINUSES:

· EVERYTHING

BREAKDOWN:

‘Rough’ is neither a Siva nor any game changer nor a fitting sendoff to actor Srihari. All those claims look like mere publicity stunts as 20 minutes into the movie starts slapping our brains with hapless scenes and spineless content.

A hero is introduced as an orphan, a set of villains come, then a heroine comes, then her brother, then movie shifts to hero’s family in Vizag. Voila! They said hero is orphan, but he has a family here? Maybe we should hold our breath to let director know about this twist. Don’t worry, senseless scenes come immediately to make you forget what you watched till now. Interval Bang!!! As a police says that this hero is a convicted criminal, we feel urgency to use this commercial break. Heroine’s brother tries to break the hero-heroine friendship but himself ends in soup. What a new take!! Second half is still pending. We get another set of villains as Srihari wants Rakul to get married to another guy but not Aadhi, for no silly reason. One can watch another new movie from here, at least new faces for next 20 minutes. Film is over!!!

As the hero’s character is introduced, Aadhi spins bike in the air, kicks the goons off to 100s of metres and delivers lengthy rhythmic mass dialogues. This itself disconnects us, as playing a Jr NTR and Raviteja kind larger-than-life roles require more stuff than what he portrayed. We don’t get jerks to eye because Senthil’s cinematography is just awesome. Occasional laughs are common in any movie, but continuous irritation is made possible by Rough.

If one loves to see Rakul’s glamour in songs, they are on Youtube. If we have to listen to Aadhi’s dialogues, they are being played as teasers on TVs. There is no point to run to theatre to watch such a boring melodrama that kills 3 hours of our time to a minimum. Still, you can take risk if you want to find out why a film fails roughly!!!

The FINISHING Line: Rough is tough, stay away from it.
