The difference of opinion between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana over water sharing is likely gonna leave Hyderabad city thirsty. Supply of drinking water to Greater Hyderabad from river Krishna could be stalled from January 2015 had if the two Telugu states come to an understanding over release of water from Srisailam and Nagarjuna Sagar reservoirs.

As of now, Krishna Water Project Phase I & II have been meeting 60 percent of Greater Hyderabad Population (92 lakhs).

Sources say, AP Government might demand for early release of water from Nagarjunasagar for rabi season in Krishna delta which covers 10 lakh acres in four districts (Krishna, Guntur, West Godavari, Prakasam). Even Telangana Government would demand for early release of water to serve the demand of 6.5 lakh acres that's been in cultivation in Khammam and Nalgonda. As a result, The drinking water supply to Hyderabad will get effected.
