Bangladesh appoints Hindu as new Chief Justice

Bangladesh president Mohammad Abdul Hamid appointed Sinha as chief justice and he will continue in the post for three years.Sinha will take over the post on Jnauary 17 th.
Sinha is known for a number of landmark judgments.He known for hsi sensational judgments in killing of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the 5th and 13th amendments to the Constitution.
Sinha becomes the first non-muslim and the first non-Bengali in this post. He is from Bisnupriya Manipuri Society, a minority ethnic community in Bangladesh. In Bangladesh 98.5% population is ethnically Bengali and 89.7% population follows Islam (95% of them are Sunni). The swearing-in would take place on January 17 at the Bangabhaban presidential palace.64-year-old Sinha would take over on January 17, as present Chief Justice Muzammel Hossain will retire on January 16.
Sinha was the most senior judge in the apex appellate division of the supreme court after Hossain.
Unitary Bangladesh's Supreme Court comprises two divisions — the appellate division and the high court division.
