On what we call as a surprise move congress leader and union minister chiranjeevi is likely to contest as Chikkaballapur Lok Sabha Candidate. It is said that after the chaos over State bifurcation, Chiranjeevi has diverted his attention to Karnataka to yet again reserve his seat in the parliament.

Chikballapur is close to Andhra Pradesh border and has a large number of Telugu speakers. Moreover, Chikkaballapur is dominated by the Balija community. Chiranjeevi who hails from the same community may have a better chance to woo the voters and give tough competition to his counterparts from the JD(S) and the BJP

Chiru have very huge fan following in this area and whenever he campaigns in Karnataka, he made habit of visiting Chikkaballapur.

Veerappa Moily representing this constituency and according to some Congress sources, Moily is hesitant to contest from Chikballapur as he knows that the contest would be very tough this time.During the last general elections Moily managed to win the constituency due to weak candidates fielded by both the JD(S) and the BJP.
