One of the greatest icons of Telugu cinema Legendary Akkineni Nageswara Rao is no more.The final rights of the stubborn man will perform within few hours While everyone has been mourning his death here are some unknown facts about his life

ANR only studied till class 4, and was poor in English. Once, on an invitation, he visited Sri Lanka for a function. The event had everyone speaking in English, except ANR who addressed the audience in Tamil. On his return, the actor took to English zealously. And soon enough he started speaking English fluently

Before Dilip Kumar got down to essaying the legendary role of Devdas in auteur Bimal Ray’s celebrated reproduction of the Bengali classic, it was Nageswara Rao who played the role in Telugu film called Devadasu. Dilip Kumar himself believed that Rao’s Devdas was much superior to his own.

ANR was a good writer and poet. He has numerous books to his name, his autobiography 'Nenu Na Jevitham', 'Nenu Chusina America' after visiting USA, and another book chronicling his film career 'Manasulo Maata'.

He was having special affection on America and always used to say that it gave his life back.He visited Americal 35 times in his life

ANR had a late marriage. Coming from the film industry, no family wanted to give their daughter's hand in marriage to ANR.

ANR gone through a open heart surgery on 18 October 1974.He is the only person who lived to for 40 years after open heart surgery.

Nageswara Rao set up Annapurna Studio in 1950s which was said to be state-of-the-art and ahead of its time.

Nagaswara Rao played 9 roles in Navarathri in 1966

While it is a known fact that NT Rama Rao created a space for himself with his mythological roles as Krishna and Rama, it was Nageswara Rao who first took on such roles, playing Lord Rama very early in his career in 1944 in Seeta Rama Jananam.

ANR was the first Telugu hero to shake a leg on screen. Earlier, only heroines would dance, and heroes would shy away from doing the same. But ANR changed the status quo with his super hit performance in 'Chengavi rangu cheera kattu kunna chinnadi'.

ANR was probably the only hero to have never been linked to any heroines. According to his son, Nagarjuna, ANR was a much disciplined person.
