Chief election commissioner H S Brahma announced number of voters in the country as on January 5th (2015) is 83 crore (approx). This figure is more than the populartion of Europe and 85 crore mark is achievable by 2019 Polls.
In the first Lok Sabha elections held in the year 1951, 17.32 crore have enrolled to vote. As on February 14th (2014), Numbers of voters in the country are 81.4 crore.
A person is eligible to vote in the election had if he attains the age of 18 years as on January 1st of that year. January 25th will be observed as National Voters Day to mark the setting up of Election Commission in 1950.
