Lift ban on media channels within 24 hours
By: Tupaki Desk | 9 July 2014 12:12 PM GMTIts known that Two prominent Telugu news TV channels have been taken off air by MSO’s in the past few weeks after Telangna Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao was allegedly offended by 'anti-Telangana' content telecast on them. The media houses had taken the issue to the concerned officials, central government and the governor but no action is taken. KCR had kept mum even after receiving a personal letter from Information and Broadcasting Minister, Prakash Javadekar.
Recently many of Telangana journalists also come on roads protesting against MSOs ban on channels and alleged that the government is trying to muzzle media rights. Despite of huge protests and uproars form Journalist unions the MSO’S still reluctant to lift their ban.
Now the central government took the issue seriously and they have been given just 24 hours time to MSO’S and asked them to telecast media channels .Union Information and Broadcasting minister Javadekar reportedly urged TRS leader Keshvaa rao to immediately lift ban on the telecast of both these channels and help them resume their operations.
Javadekar said that both these Channels are blocked since 19 Jun 2014 by Cable Operators and MSOs unauthorizedly.
This is contradictory to Fundamental rights of the Indian Constitution.MSO’S will not have any rights to impose ban on media chananles and It is only the right and privilege of the Telecom regulatory authority of India(TRAI).As there is tremendous amount of pressure on KCR from all sides, He would not have any other option but tosurrender and withdraw the ban soon.
