It is known that US President Barack Obama will be visiting India along with his wife Michelle Obama for gracing the Republic Day parade on January 26th as the Chief Guest.
On this occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wishes to gift 100 Banarasi Silk Sarees to the President's Wife if a report published by Hindustan Times is to be believed. Union Textile Ministry directed Varanasi Vastra Udyog Sangh to take up the responsibility of selecting & packaging the best sarees and dress materials for Michelle.
Reportedly, Michelle Obama likes Indian Silk a lot and loves wearing silk dresses designed by world-class designers. Hence, Modi might have preferred Banarasi silk from his Varanasi constituency for the US First Lady.
