US-based Oregon Heath & Science University has conducted experiments on monkeys which were infected with simian immunodeficiency virus (SIV), a virus that causes AIDS in non-humans. The new vaccine have the potential to remove HIV completely from the body of the infected.
The vaccine is able to cure around 50 percent of the SIV cases. Scientists were hopeful that similar results could be achieved when tested on the humans.
The reports of World Health Organization (WHO) says nearly 34 million people across the world have been diagnosed with HIV in 2011 and out of them 1.7 million succumbed to death.
