Tollywood: Rs 300 crores at stake!

Update: 2013-08-07 13:00 GMT
The ongoing agitations in Seemandhra protesting the division of state had its effect on the Telangana region as well. Protests have stalled the release of big films and exhibitors in both the regions have been incurring losses due to the empty halls.

About Rs 300 crores have been in stake till October this year. There is still no clarity on the release dates of Atharintiki Daredi, Yevadu, Toofan, Ramayya Vastavayya, Bhai, Masala, Varna and Paisa. Exhibitors have been fearing that theatres will be targeted by the agitators if they screen the films at this time.

The Telangana movement was led by political leaders and JAC has planned the protests in an organized manner. Whereas the protests in Seemandhra are led by people and the producers don't know whom they have to approach for giving a representation.

In a way, lack of Telugu releases is benefitting dubbed and Hindi films. Films like Anna and Chennai Express are getting double the screens now.
