A Samajwadi Party (SP) leader-cum-lawyer was killed here Monday when a dozen armed men barged into his house and opened fire, leaving his brother and a guard injured.
The assailants looted the dead man Yashvir Singh's licensed firearms before getting away - in Bollywood style - in cars and motorcycles, police said.
The audacious attack occurred at the Bamheta residential locality in Kavi Nagar.
The dead man was president of Samajwadi Adhivakta Sangh, a wing of the Samajwadi Party.
Police said that at about 11 a.m., the attackers stormed his house. When the guard tried to stop them at the main entrance, he was hit in the head with a rifle butt, rendering him unconscious.
The men then ran up the stairs and gunned down Yadav in his first floor room.
His elder brother Salek Chand, who apparently first tried to chase the killers, escaped by jumping from the first floor.
All three men were rushed to a nearby hospital where Yadav was declared dead. A doctor said the victim sustained three bullet injuries in the upper part of his abdomen.
The other two men sustained injuries but are out of danger.
Superintendent of Police Shiv Shankar Yadav said the Samajwadi Party leader and his neighbour Mithhan Lal had a running feud over setting up a shop at a temporary market.
