The BJP Monday said the rape of a girl from a relief camp housing the Muzaffarnagar riot victims was a "sad reflection" on the Uttar Pradesh government.
BJP state spokesman Vijay Bahadur Pathak accused the Samajwadi Party government of failing to create confidence among the riot-hit victims of Muzaffarnagar.
He said Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav had failed to instil the fear of law in the minds of anti-social elements.
A girl living in a relief camp was raped by two youth in Muzaffarnagar. Both have since been arrested.
Pathak said the policies of the state government had led to a deep rooted religious divide in western Uttar Pradesh.
