In what we call a surprise move Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) president and Chief Minister-designate K Chandrasekhar Rao has called for a total bandh in Telangana region on Thursday .He called for bandh in the region protesting against proposed ordinance on Polavaram project that will see the transfer of seven mandals, 136 villages, and 211 hamlets of Khammam district to Andhra Pradesh.
The TRS chief is opposed to the Centre's move to merge 7 mandals of Telangana into Seemandhra, as fallout of the Polavaram water project. This was the first bandh call given by KCR after Telangana formation.
Addressing a press conference at Telangana Bhavan here, KCR said that the people of Telangana would never accept the proposal of merging Telangana mandals under any circumstance. He said any move to dilute the original Telangana demand would be strongly opposed and foiled.
KCR pointed out that such a transfer cannot take place in the absence of governments in both the states. He has appealed to everyone in Telanagna participate in the strike. Since the TRS has come to power on its own in Telangana, the bandh is likely to be a success. KCR is scheduled to take oath as the first Chief Minister of a new state on June 2.
