Heavy rain late Saturday delayed the start of the Pepsi IPL-6 T20 tournament's last league tie between hosts Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Chinnaswamy stadium here.
"The 8 p.m. match is delayed by at least 30-45 minutes as it is still raining and the outfield is wet all over though the pitch has been well covered," an official of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) told IANS.
Though the climate was hot and humid during the day, looming dark clouds over the stadium after sunset indicated that a downpour was imminent.
"Though there were signs of clouds and possibility of drizzle, the hour-long rain has taken us by surprise. As there is lead time, we hope to begin the match by 9 p.m," the official said.
The sudden downpour, however, did not dampen the spirit of frenzied fans in flocking to the stadium while hundreds of others were stranded en-route due to water-logging on thoroughfares and gridlock.
Ironically, a similar league tie between RCB and CSK in the previous edition of the tournament was washed out, forcing the teams to share a point each.
