The Onion prices in the state have been forcing the consumers to cut down its usage drastically in Hyderabad. Currently, the market price of Onions is nearly Rs 80 per 1 Kg. Government is selling 1 kg of Onions per head at a subsidised rate of Rs 35 in Rythu Bazaars from this Friday. However, these Onions are of 'third grade' and 60 quintals will be supplied daily.
The traders have decided to sell 1 kg of Onions for Rs 35 in Rythu Bazaars. But, if the consumers wishes to buy more than 1 kg, he/she have to play more money - that's just less than Rs 5 over the actual market price.
This situation is because of the shortage of production due to heavy rainfalls in Kurnool and Maharashtra who are the major suppliers to Hyderabad. Even the Seemandhra agitation too affected the supply and eventually the price have gone up.
