The controversial Polavaram bill which allows merging of seven mandals of Telangana with Seemandhra was passed by Lok Sabha.Telangana MP’s created ruckus while passing the bill but it was finally cleared with voice vote.
Home Minister Rajnath Singh had introduced the Bill with its component on the Polavaram project amidst uproar.
TRS MP Vinod Kumar and other Telangana leaders opposed the introduction of the Bill saying it should be withdrawn to safeguard interest of tribal people.They reiterated that the ordinance was against the constitutional guarantees and said that there was a need to seek the opinion of the states concerned, before changing the boundaries of any state.
Along with Telangana Rashtra Samiti other parties like Trinamool Congress Biju Janata Dal and All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen opposed the bill by calling it a violation of Constitution.
The House was soon adjourned till 2pm after it passed the Bill.After getting a clearance from Lok Sabha, the Bill would now be moved to Rajya Sabha.
The center has to bear the entire cost of Polavaram project since it was made a national project in the bifurcation bill. 250 Crores were allotted to Polavaram project in this budget. The allocation was small as the project is in very primary stage.
