Temple Constructed for Singer in Hyderabad

Constructing temples for favorite  actors is quite a common practice across south. But for the first time a temple was built for a singer. Ghantasala Venkateswara Rao, the legendary playback singer’s voice lives long in Telugu music. A temple of Ghantasala has been erected and inaugurated in Kuntlur, Hayathnagar yesterday by Sri Sri Vidya Nrisimha Bharathi.

The temple is located in a spacious two acres campus and the land belongs to Vegesna Foundation.. Philanthropist Vamsi Ramaraju is the man behind mobilizing the funds for construction of Ghantasala temple. Ghantasala’s daughter Suguna helped the foundation

Ghantasala  composed music for more than 100 movies in Telugu, Tamil and Kannada films. He composed and sang the Bhagavad Gita just before his death in 1974. On 11 February 2003, a stamp was released by the Govt. of India in honor of Ghantasala at Telugu Lalita Kala Toranam, Public Gardens, Hyderabad. He was a recipient of the Padmashree award, India's fourth highest civilian award.
