Kiran Reddy is party obedient soldier, says Congress

Denying reports of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy's resignation, Congress Tuesday said he was an "obedient soldier" of the party.

Congress spokesperson Renuka Chowdhary said: "This wild, distorted news is being put out without substantiating... He (Reddy) is a very obedient soldier of the party."

"The rumour is being spread to affect local elections in the state," she said.

Reports of Reddy's resignation were afloat as the chief minister came to Delhi to meet Congress leaders, while an announcement on the formation of Telangana state out of Andhra Pradesh is being expected.

Reddy, who belongs to Rayalaseema, is reportedly upset with the centre's decision to grant statehood to Telangana and had said Friday: "I will not be a party to any destructive decision."

Chowdhary added that there was "no question" of Reddy resigning. "He merely expressed his opinion about the ground realty and his personal emotional pain," Chowdhary said.

"He is a Congressman and there is no doubt despite his personal opinion, if the high command takes a stand regarding some issue, he will stand by it," she added.
