Update: 2013-08-26 14:21 GMT
Mumbai police Commissioner Saytapal Singh Monday said 200 desolate and crime-prone spots in the city have been identified to beef up patrolling under a crime control drive, launched in the backdrop of a photojournalist's gang rape.

"As many as 200 areas have been identified as crime prone and officers have been asked to keep a check in these places," said the police commissioner.

During the drive, the beat officers will meet the owners of abandoned building and plots and ask them to increase their vigil.

The owners will also be advised to fence their properties and restrict entry, he said.

The drive was started four days after a 22-year-old photojournalist was gang raped by the five men in desolate area in central Mumbai. Five accused have been arrested and the victim is in hospital due to injuries.
