Tributes were paid to Mahatma Gandhi Wednesday as the nation observed Martyr's Day on his 65th death anniversary.
Homage was paid to the Father of the Nation at his memorial at Rajghat in Delhi, with President Pranab Mukherjee, Vice President Hamid Ansari and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh presenting floral tributes.
United Progressive Alliance chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde, and Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, along with several other political leaders and dignitaries, also paid homage to the father of the nation.
Gandhi was killed at 5, Tees January Marg, now known as Gandhi Smriti, Jan 30 1948.
Interfaith prayers and 'bhajans' (prayer songs) are organised by Gandhi Smriti on the occasion. The programme concludes with a silent tribute.
