All eyes were on the new capital of the residuary Andhra Pradesh as Seemandhra and Telangana regions are likely to be divided either before or after 2014 polls.
Capital doesn't mean just the Assembly, Secretariat and few structures, but requires a lot of infrastructure and structures for the functioning of the Government. The estimated area for building a new capital is 1-1.5 lakh acres of Land. Such vast land close to any of the cities is almost impossible and hence state government is planning to concentrate on the forest lands in the Seemandhra region. Here are the 3 Proposals for Capital...
1) Nallamala Forest Area between Vinukonda-Markapuram:
Plus Points: Railway line between Vijayawada and Bangalore, National Highway to Bangalore, Water from Srisailam project and Gundlakamma river. Most importantly, this place is close to both Andhra and Rayalseema.
2) Macherla in Guntur district:
Plus Points: National Highway between Hyderabad-Guntur, Railway line connecting all the Major Stations and Water from Nagarjunasagar and Pulichintala project.
3) Kakinada in East Godavari district:
Plus Points: National Highways and Railway line between Howrah-Chennai and Water from Godavari.
As none of these Forest Lands were close to any of the existing Airports, State Government demanded a small airport within the capital and an International Airport at a distance of 100-150 km.
