Jr NTR is expecting a big hit in his career after two flops, while director Sreenu Vytla is looking forward to repeat his magic. Let us see how the latest offering ‘Baadshah’ actually is.
The CONTENT
Baadshah (Jr NTR), a don, beats all the goons to get his father out of their crutches. Later he jumps to Milan, Italy under the name Rama Rao to woo Janaki (Kajal Agarwal) and eventually makes her fall flat for him. However it is revealed through a flash back that Baadshah is son of a casino owner in Macau and his father works for international don Sadhhu (Kelly Dorjee). Baadshah wants to take control of all mafia dominated territories and locks horns with Sadhu and other dons. When Baadshah kills all other dons, Sadhu wants to take revenge on him. He eventually kills a police officer with the help of a fraudulent police Adhi (Navdeep) and pushes the blame onto Baadshah. So, why is Baadhsah wooing Kajal in the name of Rama Rao? What leads him to run after Sadhu? What happens to his love with Janaki forms the crux of story.
The EFFORT :
On-Screen:
Young Tiger Jr NTR is always dynamite when it comes to flashing loads of energy. With newly designed hairstyle and subtle body language, Junior steals the show. One liners mouthed by Junior are a treat to watch, while his energetic dances woo Nandamuri fans.
Kajal runs the show for a while with her ‘philosophy preachy’ character and the ‘Banthi’ (ball) thread woven around her is just amazing. However she is looking a bit fat than Jr NTR and that is obvious in many scenes. In song, she is just glamorous but not hot.
Credit goes to MS Narayana who played the role of Film Director ‘Revenge Nageswara Rao’ for making audiences go laughing continually. He excelled with timing as usual by imitating the likes of a headstrong director like RGV.
Second half of the film runs solely on the tremendous action episodes of Brahmanandam. He is super as DCP Jayasimha and once again proved that there is no replacement for him. Nasar too did a decent role while all the supporting cast supported him properly.
Siddharth, Suhasini, Vennela Kishore played their part well.
Off-Screen:
Sreenu Vytla is a big name when it comes to dealing with comedy. Unlike Dookudu, here in Baadshah the comic content totally dominated the film. Sreenu extracted tremendous performances from one and all for a perfectly written script.
Thaman’s background score once again helped heroism reach peaks and comedy reach audiences. His songs are quite ordinary this time but the photography of KV Guhan makes the whole show watchable. Action sequences and fights are composed well, but somehow visual effects are not looking real in this high budgeted flick.
All other technicians have supported the director, while choreographers supported Junior NTR well.
The PLUSES:
· MS Narayana And Brahmanandam
· Thrilling second half with loads of comedy
· Watchable songs
The MINUSES:
· Jerky first half
· Formulaic old story
BREAKDOWN:
Sreenu Vytla is yet to come out of Dookudu hangover and once again he tried to create a new movie with same old frame. At least a new kind of story might have impressed audiences. But Sreenu too knows this fact and that is why he inserted comic scenes, songs and fights pretty well at dull times. As he is a master of comedy, MS Narayana’s role and Brahmanandam’s Jayasimha IPS skits and Dream Machine thread are etched perfectly. Along with that NTR song medley where the best aunties of Tollywood have shaken legs to Sr NTR’s item numbers, Sreenu offered comic treat to family audiences for summer.
At times the film is quite predictable but still Sreenu’s flying horses M S Narayana and Brahmi have come up with flying colors to satisfy audiences. Apart from this Jr NTR did a very subtle role in his career and again he excelled in comic timing well. But this movie is not going to be No.1 Blockbuster of Tollywood, though it will become one more decent treat in NTR’s career.
The FINISHING Line: ‘Baadshah’ Is Best Summer Treat!
