It asked the banks to enable Hijra’s to use banking services like common people. It asked the banks to allot third gender column in the bank forms. The decision has been cheered by LGBT activists, who say that it’s a positive sign for them to live freely in society.

The supreme court of India recently ruled that transgender people would be recognised on under a seperate "third gender" category.
