Prestigious Padma awards creating unnecessary headaches for the union government. Its known that Saina Nehwal lashed out at the sports ministry over omitting her name from the list of Padma Bhushan awardees probables. Saina expressed her displeasure for not being conferred with the award and that made the ministry reconsider her name.
Now another player joined in the list and starts cry for not involving his name in the Padma list. Olympian boxer Vijender Singh who won Bronze medal in the Beijing Olympics in 2008 says even he is the right candidate for the award.
He raised demand that his name also should be included in the list of Padma awardees and wrote a letter to sports ministry.The boxer has maintained that he won’t demand award but believed that the Sports ministry is wise enough to pick the right candidates for the prestigious Padma award.We need to see whether the union government will consider Vijender’s request or not.
Apart from wining bronze at the Beijing Olympics in 2008, Vijender won medals at the World Championships, Commonwealth Games too.
