The Election Commission did not announce the result of Kalwakurthy Assembly on result day (Friday) as one EVM developed a snag and the votes could not be counted. Though experts from ECIL tried to open the EVM on Saturday, they were not successful and conveyed their inability to the CEO.
Chief Electoral Officer Bhanwar Lal has written to the Election Commission recommending repolling in one polling booth in the Assembly constituency as the electronic voting machine (EVM) in that booth could not be opened for counting.
The polling was happened for 800 votes and congress candidate Vamsee chand reddy won with majority of just 77 votes against BJP candidate. With this congress MLA’s count increased to 21 which is one seat more than TDP-BJP.
It may be recalled here that Vamsichand was expelled by the then PCC president D Srinivas for his alleged involvement in criminal offences like attacks on Reliance malls in 2010. The suspension order was later revoked.
