Around 1 lakh residents of Maldives weren't able to get drinking water because of a fire in the Water-Treatment Plant in the city. It takes several days to resume operations in the plant and that's been a cause of worry.

A alarm was raised to inform about the crisis situation and at the same time appeals were made to India, China and United States to offer a helping hand.

As Colombo doesn't have a natural water source and the people depend solely on treated sea water. Even though the Government has been providing drinking water free of charge, People were finding it difficult as the supplied amount wasn't sufficient for washing purpose.
