An Assam Rifles trooper and his wife were arrested here for possessing heroin worth over Rs.10 lakh, police said Wednesday.
Rifleman Nazir Khan, 32, and his wife Mamtaz Begum were taken into custody late Tuesday night from their house in Thembasuk area, police said.
"We have arrested them for possessing 101 grams of heroin concealed in small tins and worth over Rs.10 lakh," Vivek Syiem, Shillong police chief, told IANS.
The heroin smuggled from Myanmar was meant to be marketed in Shillong, police said.
The two accused were presented before a court which sent them to five days' police custody.
