In a historical veridict today supreme court ordered central government to facilitate E-voting option to NRI's. The apex court issued notices to the Election Commission of India (ECI) and the Centre directing them to take steps to ensure that NRIs are also able to vote.
In the orders the apex court urged EC and Central government to ensure NRIs must be allowed to e-vote within 8 weeks of elections. Recently MEA opposed on providing voting option to NRI's at embassies pointing which will create much implications in some countries where Indian population much high. Now the court directed EC to check option to provide voting option to NRI's who has primary citizenship in India
