With an aim of providing drinking water at an affordable price in main areas of the city, Government on earlier proposed to set up 500 water ATM’s in the national capital. Customers to buy rechargeable ‘smartcards’ from the private operators and draw up to 20 litres of water per transaction at a price of 15 paise or 30 paise per litre, depending on the location of the Water ATM.
In a statement to media Arun Jaitley says “About 500 ATMs supported with ground water/tanker services will be set up in 2014-15,".
