Election Commission on Monday declared YSR Congress as the recognized party based on the votes it secured in the recent General Elections. EC also reserved the election symbol (ceiling fan) for YSRC on a permanent basis.
YSR Congress won 70 Assembly and 9 Lok Sabha seats in both Seeamandhra and Telangana. It secured 44 percent of the votes out of total votes polled in the 2014 Polls.
As per EC norms, A Party should get 1/6th of votes in the total votes polled in General Elections to claim a recognized party status.
YSR Congress breathed a sign of relief with this achievement as the fear of disqualification might stop the migrations into TDP to some extent.
