In the wake of protests of Telangana MPs in Lok Sabha,Home Minister Rajnath Singh suspended the directive on Special Powers to Governor till August 18th when the TRS MPs will have a meeting with the home ministry.

The TRS MPs on Monday stalled the proceedings of the Lok Sabha in protest against the Centre's recent dictate delegating special powers of law and order in Hyderabad to Governor. They have dashed in to the Speaker’s well and demanded the issue to be taken into discussion immediately. After couple of adjournments, the Home Minister gave a statement to the house regarding this issue.

Rajnath Singh said that the Centre understands the sensitivity of relationship between the Centre and States and it would maintain cordial relations with all the States in the country. He said the provisions of the act were very clear about the special powers of the Governor in respect of law and order.

However, he said that the Centre has only issued an Advisory to Telangana Government over the Section 8 of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act - 2014 wherein the Governor has been assigned the responsibility to protect residents of common capital of Hyderabad. He read out the excerpts of Section 8 to convey that the Governor would consult the Council of Ministers of Telangana although his judgment on the action to be taken would be final.
